Education System

Education is highly important in Korea. They start out from Kindergarten or Preschool at the age of three, go through Elementary School and on to a secondary education which consists of Middle School and High School. After high school, one can choose to continue in either a Junior College or a University/College.

Preschool is not part of the official korea school system. Elementary school provides six years of compulsory education for free, 1st grade to 6th grade.
Secondary education which includes middle school offers three years of lower education, 7th to 9th grade, and high school offers three years of higher education, 10th to 12th grades.

Higher education requires the students to take an entrance examination to enter the college or university of their choice. This is due to the huge difference in the college admission quota and the number of applicants each year.
